Community Peace Garden @ Trinity United Reformed Church

Activities,Events,Latest News 18 November 2013

We are very lucky for Trinity United Reformed Church to host one of our Young Carers Groups. Read what Group Leader Christine Grundy has got to say about their new Community Peace Garden. It sounds amazing, what lucky Young Carers they are.

The structural work on phase one has now been completed and we are in the process of commissioning an artist to work with user groups, church members, children on Rainbow Ward at the nearby hospital, and people from the community to create mosaics that will be displayed on an exterior wall of the church building in phase one of the Peace Garden. This will be something that the community can get involved with, in particular children and young people.

The garden, when fully completed will have child-friendly aspects; we hope to have art features, sensory garden, willow tree hut and labyrinth walk. There is a paved area for creative work with user groups, eco discussions, poetry and story-telling. Local businesses, those involved in the care of patients at the local hospital, whether staff or family members, will be able to use the garden to sit, walk round, watch wildlife, meditate, pray or simply use the garden to relax at lunch time. This can reduce stress and anxiety, making the working role, or visiting a loved one at the hospital a little bit easier.

There is something magical about a peace garden; it is a place where people from all walks of life can come, to use the space. It is for all faiths and none. Many families in our community are experiencing stress, depression and anxiety and often have nowhere to be at peace. Children delight in nature and exploration. Having a quiet space in our noisy, busy world can have untold positive impact on our mental health and wellbeing.

We hope that people from the community will get involved in the care of the garden so that we can all gain a sense of fulfilment, and enjoy a shared experience in a peaceful place that welcomes all.
