POST: SENDIASS Co-Ordinator

RESPONSIBLE TO:
SENDIASS Manager /Lead Officer at Embrace

SALARY: £25,000 (pro-rata)

HOURS: 37 hours per week (full time)
1 Year Contract
DEADLINE: 30th March 2016 at 5pm

Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) is a statutory service that provides free accurate and impartial information, advice and support to children, young people and their families and carers on matters relating to their education, health or social care, The service is offered to parents and carers of children and young people aged between 0-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and also available for young people with SEND.

The role involves being the first point of contact for telephone and email enquiries, providing information and support, investigating sources of information and signposting to other services and agencies where appropriate. It is a demanding role and the successful candidate must have outstanding interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, listening skills, empathy and ability to build rapport. The ability to be flexible in approach in dealing with difficult situations, working with sensitive and confidential information and working well under pressure is also essential. With relevant practical experience, eg experience in working either in a school, educational or advice giving setting, a demonstrable understanding and knowledge of current SEND working practice and educational legislation would be a distinct advantage.

It is essential that you can work as part of a team as well as independently. You will be computer literate. You will also have superb communication skills, be confident in speaking to large groups of people and be happy to travel all over the Borough. You will need to be flexible as attendance at some early morning and evening meetings may be required. Meetings may be held within someone’s home, in the community (schools, clinics etc) or at an office base.
