‘Joining forces to do more for young and adult carers in Wigan’
An exciting proposal to merge two successful and influential charities has been completed.
Today we are honoured to announce the formal merger with the Wigan & Leigh Carers Centre.
The boards of the two charities agreed in April 2020 to work towards a merger, establishing a single organisation that provides recognition and support to all carers across the Wigan Borough. Back in June 2020 both Charities released a statement to announce the proposal, after years of working together in partnership.
Angela Allison, Chief Executive Officer of Wigan and Leigh Carers said “Both Charities have worked together successfully for years and this is an excellent development, and natural progression. Joining forces with Wigan and Leigh Young Carers will help us amplify the voices of carers and reach even more people with specialist advice and support. This merger will greatly strengthen our ability to do this.
It will be a great honour to lead the new charity; a role which is both professionally, and personally, very important to me. As Wigan’s comprehensive Carers Charity, we will be driven forward by collaboration, ambition and – most importantly – the passion of our carers and families, who will remain at the heart of everything we do.”
The merger will bring together a wealth of resources, knowledge and networks. Now, more than ever, carers need empathetic, specialist support, and the coming together of both Charities will greatly expand knowledge, expertise and capability for delivering a seamless service for all carers across Wigan borough.
Carmen France-Mcgrail, Young Carers Manager said, “I am very excited about this new chapter and the opportunities it opens up for everyone involved. Together, we’ll be a stronger Charity to influence and drive progress further, with a united community and one clear voice for everyone, making a greater difference to both young and adult carers. We look forward, with great hope, to taking this exciting step together.”
