Suspension of Respite Groups by Wigan and Leigh Young Carers.

Events 16 March 2020

Wigan and Leigh Young Carers have taken the difficult decision to suspend groups and home visits for the foreseeable future.

This decision has not been taken lightly by any of us.  The aim of this suspension is to minimise the risk of spreading any infection.  It is a precautionary measure, and not intended to cause or spread panic.

:-  Many of our families have people with health conditions that mean they are more prone to infection.

:-  Many of our staff / volunteers care for people with health conditions that mean they are more prone to infection.

This decision covers: regular groups (eg Turtles, Parkside, Jubilee), Chill Skills, Cook Clubs, 1-2-1 / befriending sessions and home-based Young Carers assessments.

It mirrors decisions by other carers groups and other organisations that work in health and social care.

We are exploring how we can make arrangements for young carers and families to be able to check in with staff via the phone, so that there is still some element of support for them.

We hope you appreciate that this has been a difficult decision and has been done to protect vulnerable members of the families of our service users and staff /volunteers.
