Welcome Gillian – our new Young Carers Transition Support Worker

Charity News 23 September 2022
A warm welcome to our new Young Carers Transition Support Worker, Gillian Storey.
We would like to introduce you to Gillian who has recently joined team WLCC as our new Transition Support Worker, working with our Young Carers Team.
As part of Gillian’s role, her initial focus (with support from her colleagues, Peter and Nicola) will be around assessments for young carers from age 14+ and helping reform the transition age social group (with funding support from Network Space, and volunteer support from Joanne, Arthur, Paul and Wendy).
She will also be representing the team on the Carers Training Grant panel and other relevant forums, as well as providing 1-2-1 support for transition age carers, ranging from befriending, through to identifying individual career opportunities and skill enhancements, plus much more!
Four the last few years Gillian has worked as SENCO teaching assistant. Prior to that she had considerable experience in the banking sector. She has also been an unpaid carer. All three roles bring valuable experience to the role.
We caught up Gillian and here’s what she had to say: “I love working with young people and helping others and hope to make a positive difference to their lives. Thanks for the warm welcome so far, it’s great to be a part of this amazing Charity.”
Bernadette Ashcroft, Chief Officer said “We are delighted to announce that Gillian has joined our team. Her role is integral to the Charity and the young carers we support – congratulations and welcome to the team!”
