COVID-19 – priority letter for carers

Carers 29 December 2021

As you are probably aware, medical and scientific advisers and the government are recommending that everybody get their booster doses of the COVID vaccine in order to stay safe in light of the new Omicron variant.  Carers UK became worried about unpaid carers who cannot leave the person they care for alone for very long, or cannot stand in queues with the person they care for because they may become upset, agitated or exhausted. They raised this urgently with the Government in England and the vaccination leads about how to ensure that unpaid carers get quick access to the COVID-19 booster jab.

The UK Government has now taken steps to ensure that unpaid carers can use a specific letter to identify themselves to gain priority for the booster jabs for COVID-19 along with paid care workers, if there are long queues.

How carers can use the letter

Carers can request a copy of this letter from Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre and either print this out and take along to the appointment or a walk-in clinic, otherwise save it to a device you will have with you.  To request a copy of this letter please email info@wlcccarers.com

We hope this makes it easier for you to get vaccinated and protect yourself, the person you care for and other loved ones.
