Volunteers Week 2022

Volunteers 1 June 2022

As we move into Volunteers Week today, we would like to celebrate the generous and important support our fabulous volunteers give to WLCC.

Jen, one of our Befriending volunteers shared her story…

“It was suggested that I might be interested in becoming a Befriender by some of the professionals who visited my husband during his final illness. Being a full-time carer gave me new insight into the many issues and challenges carers face daily.

When the time was right, in 2016, I became a volunteer at WLCC. I have now been a Befriender for 6 years.

Until Covid, Befriender meetings were at a mutually convenient venue, often a coffee shop. During Covid and now, texts and phone calls are used much more frequently.

I believe my role is to listen and point carers in the right direction to find specific help. Knowing someone is at the end of a phone, can be a life saver in times of real need.

Through befriending, I am able to use many of the skills and talents gained whilst doing my job for 30+ years. Importantly, the friendships we have formed through meetings and social events at WLCC will last for many years to come.

I love what I do. It has added a new dimension to my life after a horrible bereavement.”

❤ Thank you Jen for your amazing contribution to our Charity.
